Car of the Year Awards 2022: Best convertible for value
A good convertible should obviously offer wind-in-the-hair thrills, but, we’re looking for a car that also delivers an enjoyable drive and a four-seat interior that makes you feel special...
Fiat 500 Convertible Icon

One thing that the Italians are very good at is creating timeless designs, whether it’s with their architecture, fashion or furniture. It also extends to their cars, with the latest Fiat 500 owing much of its appeal to its cute, retro styling. However, underneath it’s thoroughly modern, because it’s fully electric.
True, the real-world range is a little disappointing, with it managing only 140 miles on a full charge in our test, but that’s not such an issue in its natural environment: the city.

Besides, rivals such as the Honda E and Mini Electric have even shorter ranges and, unlike the 500, neither is available with a convertible roof. Indeed, the only electric convertible that’s available for less is the Smart Fortwo EQ, which is far less practical and has a minuscule range. Meanwhile, the petrol-powered Mini Convertible can’t match the 500’s refinement, comfort or manoeuvrability.
