Strengths of the Citroën C5 Aircross include generous space for five and hushed cruising manners, but it’s the sheer value it offers that really sets it apart. Simply put, it gives you a heck of a lot for your money.

In entry-level Sense trim, the C5 Aircross is one of the cheapest new large SUVs you can buy, and you don’t need to go any higher up the ladder, because it comes with niceties such as two-zone climate control, heated door mirrors, a 12.3in digital instrument panel, a variable-height boot floor and rear parking sensors.

Performance from the little 1.2-litre petrol engine is more than sufficient, too, plus it’s frugal enough to keep running costs low.

Few rivals have such a cosseting ride, and while the Kia Sorento and Peugeot 5008 offer classier interiors and two extra seats, you’re paying for the privilege. Considering all that you get, the C5 Aircross is nothing short of a bargain.
