The DS3 blends hot-hatch performance and supermini economy. The turbocharged petrol engine delivers 161bhp, and gets the car from 0-62mph in 7.2sec. Top speed is 135mph, and it'll do a claimed average of 50.4mpg.
The interior has a funky yet premium feel, with chrome-rimmed dials and colour-coded panels. Quality is also better than in similar Peugeot-Citroen models.
The DS 3 also achieved a maximum five stars in its European NCAP crash test, and this particular model also gets automatic emergency braking, which stops the car in town if a collision is imminent.
The driving position can feel slightly awkward, with decidedly offset pedals, and there isn't a great deal of legroom in the rear seats.
Should I add any options?
The THP DSport model comes with a fair amount of equipment as standard, to name a few; cruise control, CD with MP3/iPod connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, Bluetooth, and more. Sat-nav and a reversing camera are available, too.
There's a range of metallic colours available for £466, or pearl white for £599.
