No one has driven the new TT yet, so there’s no saying how it’s going to drive, but the previous-generation model was one of our favourite coupes. Striking a great balance between sportiness, refinement and quality, the old TT ticked many boxes while asking very few compromises of the owner.
This new model moves the game on even further, with new advanced construction methods to reduce weight and increase performance. The 2.0-litre turbo in this model has huge power, despite not being the full-blooded TTS version, and should be more than enough for most drivers.
Inside, the TT’s dials have been replaced by a 12.3in screen. The rest of the cabin is beautifully minimalist, with even the climate controls integrated into the air vent knobs – although this costs extra.
Equipment levels are generous on the Sport model. Half-leather/half-Alcantara upholstery, air-conditioning, xenon headlights, the virtual instrument panel with sat-nav preparation and Bluetooth preparation is included as standard. Upgrade to S line trim and you get additional styling details and optional lowered sports suspension.
We’ve not tested it yet, so we can’t be sure how it’s going to drive, but we have been able to climb all over a production-ready car and know that the rear seats are really only for kids on very short journeys.
Audi came slightly below average in the most recent JD Power survey, along with the previous-generation TT, and with the latest model becoming even more complex this could mean it won’t prove as reliable as the brand’s reputation suggests.
Should I add any options?
Sport-spec cars are well equipped so we’d take the discount as is. Quattro all-wheel drive is available but we’d avoid it as you won’t notice the difference in normal day-to-day driving.
Adaptive suspension is offered, as is Audi’s excellent S tronic twin-clutch automatic gearbox, which might be worth specifying if you don’t want to change gears yourself.
