Deal of the Day: Audi A3 Sportback

We recently put the Mini Clubman to the test against the Audi A3 Sportback, and the Audi came out on top as a more capable overall package.

Today’s Deal of the Day brings a saving of £3346 off the £23,835 list price of the A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI SE Technik.

We love the Audi’s strong and flexible engine, which is fast yet frugal; returning a real-world fuel economy of 51.2mpg.

The SE suspension set-up gives a good balance between comfort and handling, it might be slightly firm, but not enough to be a real bother.

Interior quality is another area in which the A3 earns a five-star rating; the A3 is screwed together superbly and has the quality feel of a car above its price tag, particularly at this discounted price.

As with most Audis, reliability isn’t a strong point, although it’s far from poor, overall, rivals offer more peace of mind.

Company car buyers won’t be bowled over by the A3’s company car tax costs, but the saving on offer should help to quell this worry.

Should I add any options?

Kit is generous on the A3 Sportback SE Technik, with Bluetooth, rear parking sensors, a USB socket, voice control, cruise control, sat-nav and air conditioning all included; we don’t think there’s anything you’ll need to add.

What are its rivals?

The A3 beat the Mini Clubman in our twin test, and boasts a five-star rating. The BMW 1 Series trails behind it on four stars, while the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Lexus CT200h are both left far behind on two stars.
