Deal of the Day: Skoda Superb

Having awarded it a five-star rating, it’s safe to say we feel that the Skoda Superb lives up to its name. Its list of talents is seemingly endless, while the value it represents – even at full price – is remarkable.

The Superb is similar in size to the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6, but is priced to compete with the Kia Optima, Ford Mondeo and Mazda 6. Our saving brings it down to the price of an entry-level VW Golf.

The Superb is handsomely styled on the outside and is classy, plush and stylish on the inside. The size and comfort of the Superb means it represents incredible value for money, something that our large saving only goes to improve.

As mentioned, the size of the Superb is noteworthy; few to none can match the amount of car you get for this money, and the size is used sensibly and practically. The rear leg room is enough to rival luxury offerings such as the Mercedes S-Class, and the boot is an impressive size.

Amid recent controversies, the 2.0-litre diesel isn’t what we’d go for; instead we’d opt for the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which manages an official 57.7mpg, with CO2 emissions of just 116gkm. Even with the size of the Superb in consideration, it’s comfortably powerful enough for the Superb, despite the unit's small capacity.

The Superb is unflappable in almost all areas, although the suspension occasionally loses its composure over rougher UK roads.

Keener drivers may be left a little unsatisfied by the amount of fun the Superb provides compared to others in the segment, although this is easily, if expensively, rectified in the options.

Should I add any options?

There’s a long list of options on offer, but as alluded to above, it’s worth opting for the dynamic chassis control (£850) if you want a more rewarding drive. A rear windscreen wiper is a cost-free addition, while sat-nav will set you back £755.
