Deal of the day: Volkswagen Tiguan

We scour the internet broker sites to bring you big discounts on new cars every week. The brokers work with UK main dealers to offer these savings on the latest models.

The car: Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 140 Bluemotion Tech Match 2WD
The saving: £2722
The discounted price: £22,168
The broker:

The Volkswagen Tiguan might be an SUV but its natural habitat is on-road driving. There’s plenty of grip, even in the two-wheel-drive model, and firm suspension keeps body roll in check.

All engines are refined and, like the 2.0-litre in this deal, most have plenty of power to make driving the Tiguan a relaxed affair. The lighter 2WD models are also more efficient than their all-wheel-drive counterparts.

It’s quiet on the move. Wind noise creeps into the cabin at high speeds, but road and suspension noise are very well contained, which means the Tiguan is a refined place to transport your family.

The cabin feels good quality and is well laid out. The Tiguan also comes loaded with safety kit including stability control, emergency brake assist and six airbags.

The Tiguan should also hold on to its value well when you come to sell it.

Rear visibility isn't that good because of the small rear window and chunky pillars that obscure the view.

The dashboard design lacks flair, so style-conscious buyers may want to look at the Audi Q3 or BMW X1.

The firm suspension set-up means that the car isn’t as comfortable as a Nissan Qashqai over small imperfections in the road.

The boot is an even shape, but slide the rear seats back and they seriously eat into boot space.

Should I add any options?
Match trim is our favourite and adds sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and USB input to the standard electric windows and digital radio.

We’d say don’t spend any more than you need to and definitely avoid the higher-powered engines and all-wheel drive because they add weight, cost and complexity.
