The Toyota NS4 concept car has been unveiled at the Detroit motor show 2012.
Toyota says the NS4 is separate from the Prius family and isnt a preview of how the next Prius will look. The NS4 does introduce design themes and technology that we can expect to see on future Toyota models, however.
The NS4s bold design features a low roofline and smooth shape to minimise aerodynamic drag. There are especially thin A-pillars, slim rear lights that curve into the bootlid, distinctive front light details and lots of polished metal trim.
The NS4s dramatic styling and doors that open up and outwards arent likely to make production, but elements of the design are likely to influence the next Prius and Avensis models.
Inside, the NS4 has a dash thats designed to minimise clutter and distraction, with simple controls and a large central touch-screen. Theres a large glass roof area, and Toyota says that the NS4 has four new glass technologies that reduce aerodynamic drag outside the car and glare inside the cabin.
New safety innovations for the NS4 include a pre-collision system that uses radar and cameras, and adaptive beam headlights.
Toyota says the NS4 uses a next-generationplug-in hybrid powertrain, but it hasnt released any technical details, beyond the fact that it will use advanced battery technology.
