How about the discounts?

How about the discounts?
Dealers now stand to make less money on some smaller models depending on how much theyre being asked to support the incentive so they could be less inclined to offer discounts to any buyer, not just a banger seller.

The What Car? Target Price offers realistic discount estimates never pay the list price so we sent our mystery shoppers out to test the scrappage deals. We were very pleasantly surprised, but the shop was conducted while the details of the scheme were still being finalised, and scrappage deals will continue to change.

We found that buyers who had a car to scrap could improve on the Target Price in almost every case by as much as two or three times, for example, on a Vauxhall Corsa or Citron Grand C4 Picasso.

More than that, any idea that the industry is looking to recover its 300 million incentive bill by giving smaller discounts to non-scrappage buyers is, so far, not borne out, because our Target Price discounts are growing.

 Scrap shop*
Each car was mystery shopped without a scrappage
trade-in, then with one. Scrappage benefits could be impressive.

*Mystery shops were conducted before the scrappage schemes
final details were agreed.
