Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M in detail

When you've just won your 16th Formula One constructors' championship you're entitled to treat yourself and Ferrari did just that at the Bologna Motor Show.

The company gave a first public airing of their Scuderia Spider 16M an open-top version of the extreme 430 Scuderia coupe.

Just 499 Spiders will be made, each with a plaque on the dashboard and on the rear advertising itsexclusivity.

The UK allocation of cars will be in line with its percentage of overall Ferrari sales, which means we are likely to get between 40 and 50 but if you haven't already got an order in it's probably too late, even at a price of 259,000 (about 220,000).

Power comes from the same 510bhp 4.3-litre V8 in the Scuderia coup. It's brawny enough to make the Spider the fastest open-top road car ever to lap the company's Fiorano circuit.

Body-stiffening is the same as in the regular F430 Spider, but weight-trimming measures including extensive use of carbon fibre ensures the Scuderia is 80 kilos lighter.

As in the Scuderia coup, interior trim has been left in the factory to further cut weight, but even so the Spider is not without its little luxuries, including an integrated iPod Touch.
