Five-door Range Rover Evoque unveiled

This is the five-door Range Rover Evoque, revealed in the first official pictures of the innovative crossover.

The five-door model is due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show next week and will go on sale alongside the three-door version next summer.

Land Rover's managing director, Phil Popham, said: 'While retaining everything that's great about the Range Rover Evoque coupe, this new five-door bodystyle will offer customers even more choice, greater practicality, versatility and flexibility.'

More space
Although it is the same width and length as its three-door sister, the five-door car is 30mm higher, thanks to a raised roofline that helps to create more space inside.

As well as the extra headroom, says Land Rover, rear-seat passengers in the five-door car have an additional 50mm more shoulder room than those in the three-door, while a full-length glass roof floods the cabin with light.

The three-seat rear bench has ISOFIX child-seat mounts, is split 60/40 and can be folded down to leave 1445 litres of boot space slightly less than a Nissan Qashqai.

> Range Rover Evoque: click to enlargeFor the driver, the cabin gets the same touch-screen control system as the three-door model and is made of high-quality materials. Buyers can also specify leather upholstery with twin-needle stitching across almost every surface of the instrument panel, doors and seats.

Three design themes
There is also the choice of three design themes Pure, Prestige and Dynamic while the available equipment includes automated parking, sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry.

On- and off-road, the five-door car is as good as the three-door, says Land Rover, and it has the same engine options: a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with either 148- or 187bhp, and a 237bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Both front- and four-wheel-drive versions will be available, with the front-wheel drive 148bhp diesel-engined car emitting less than 135g/km of CO2.

Prices for the five-door range are expected to start at around 30,000, and the first cars should reach customers in summer 2011.
