From a standing start the Tesla Roadster can hit 60mph in just 3.9 seconds, which is as fast, say, as a Porsche 911 Turbo. The top speed of 125mph isnt as swift as the Porsche, but, then, how many people go at 192mph?.
All 280 lb ft of torque is available from zero rpm. That means the Tesla doesnt need to be thrashed to accelerate at its best, so its less frantic to drive as a result.
The surge away from a standstill is astonishing, instant and slightly bizarre because it isnt accompanied by the scream of an engine and the howl of an exhaust.
Besides a little whirr from the electric motor, and some occasional gurgle from the coolant around the batteries, this is a silent affair.
All of that pulling power is on hand between zero and 6000rpm, but the Tesla still accelerates well up to 14,000rpm.
A motor with performance like that needs some juice, so there are 450kg of batteries loaded into the car
