What will they cost?
The F-Pace is £6118 pricier than the Macan, then, but it is a larger car and comes with a lot of standard kit that would cost around the same amount to add to the Macan. That includes 20in alloys (£1457), sat-nav (£1052), electric front passenger seat (£1004), a reversing camera (£834) and adaptive suspension (£785). Both cars have climate control, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, parking sensors all round, lane-departure warning, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers as standard, however.
The Macan is expected to retain its value much better than the F-Pace. In fact, the F-Pace’s value is expected to drop below the Macan’s within the first year. While the cars are closely matched for fuel costs, insurance, servicing and road tax, a private cash buyer is likely to spend £9340 more on the Jaguar over three years, with depreciation being the main contributor.
Leasing costs also favour the Macan with payments of £534 per month versus £688 for the F-Pace. CO2 emissions make benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax rates the same for both cars, but the Jaguar’s higher selling price means it averages £587 per month in company car tax for a 40% taxpayer over three years compared with £518 for the Macan.
It’s another win for the Macan for anyone taking out PCP finance. The Macan costs £550 a month compared with £826 for the F-Pace. Both deals are over three years and 12,000 miles with a £5000 deposit.
The F-Pace hasn’t yet been crash tested by Euro NCAP, but the Macan has and scored the full five stars. Both cars get five out of five stars from Thatcham for theft resistance and four stars for break-in defence.
