Our verdict

Both of these SUVs balance everyday comfort with open-road thrills, but there are big differences between them. The Porsche Macan is the sharper handler, while the Jaguar F-Pace is still great fun to drive and is roomier inside.

However, the Jaguar’s high price and steep depreciation put it at a big disadvantage. Some will need the F-Pace’s extra space, but for those who don’t, the Macan is the stronger overall proposition. It comes sparsely equipped, but you could add some options and still be better off.
