The 2014 Jeep Cherokee will be priced from Β£24,495 when it goes on sale later this year.

There are three trim levels on offer - Longitude, Longitude+ and Limited - and a 2.0-litre diesel with 140bhp and 170bhp outputs.

Entry-level Longitude comes with a generous level of equipment, including LED tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, DAB radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear park assist.

Step up to Longitude+ and you get an 8.4-inch Uconnenct media system that brings satellite-navigation and voice recognition. Limited is stacked with equipment, including a powered tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, eight-way power driver’s seat, rear parking camera, auto headlights and wipers, keyless entry and start and a wireless phone charging pad.

A more off-road-focused model will be launched later in 2014, with height-adjustable suspension, locking differential and more protective cladding. A 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine will also be offered.

The entry-level price buys you a front-wheel-drive Longitude with the lower powered engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. The top-of-the-range 2.0 Limited 170 4x4 with a new nine-speed automatic gearbox will cost Β£35,695.
