New Mitsubishi ASX vs Seat Ateca vs Vauxhall Mokka X

Mitsubishi’s new ASX and the Vauxhall Mokka X offer a load of kit for an asking price of about Β£20k. Does that make them more appealing than an entry-level Seat Ateca for similar money?

Mitsubishi ASX

As standard, the ASX has a 6.0in colour touchscreen, a DAB radio and Bluetooth but no sat-nav; you have to go up a trim level for that. The main issue is the poor interface. The screen is of low resolution compared with the Mokka X’s and has lots of small, fiddly icons. The menus aren’t intuitive, so even finding a radio station is a chore. There’s no smartphone mirroring, either.


Seat Ateca

Entry-level S trim comes with a thoroughly outdated 5.0in monochrome touchscreen and no DAB radio, so it’s not just the ASX that’s getting a ticking off. For a not inconsiderable Β£795, you can upgrade to a colour 8.0in screen (pictured) with a DAB radio, sat-nav and smartphone mirroring. This optional system works well, with slick menus, large on-screen icons and shortcut buttons around its edges.


Vauxhall Mokka X

All praise goes here. There are aspects of the system that could be improved (it can be sluggish in responding at times), but otherwise the 8.0in touchscreen is easy to get to grips with. And look what you get as standard: sat-nav, smartphone mirroring and a 4G wi-fi hotspot. You can even have OnStar, a subscription-based concierge service that can be used to download information such as sat-nav destinations.
