The Concept PX-MiEV II is a plug-in hybrid, and Mitsubishis vision for the future of the SUV.
A development of the original PX-MiEV, which was shown at the 2009 Tokyo show, its about the same size as the car makers Outlander, and a pointer to the next-generation version of this, which is due in January 2013.
The PX-MiEV II is powered by a combination of a 2.0-litre petrol engine and two 60kw electric motors, which should help it average almost 170mpg. The next Outlander will adopt this hybrid powertrain in 2014.
Mitsubishi is also targeting a range of more than 800km (500 miles), and around 31 miles in electric-only mode. To put that into perspective, the plug-in version of the Toyota Prius can travel only 14.3 miles on electric power.
A socket fitted to the PX-MiEV II allows the electricity stored in the drive batteries to be used to power electrical appliances when camping, or as an emergency power source.
The car also features a four-wheel-drive system thats related to the one in the Evo X performance saloon.
