Audi Q8

Our verdict

This test has highlighted how different in character these SUVs are. The Velar is a cosseting cruiser, making every drive a relaxing experience, whereas the Q8 has a firmer edge and handling that lives up to the promise of its sporty looks.

While the Velar is more affordable, better equipped and more practical, that’s not enough to stop the Q8 from winning. Not only does it feel like a luxury item inside, but the effortless performance is far more in keeping with its sporty remit, and the way it handles is astonishing. Despite this, it’s still comfy and roomy enough for the job. In this case, you get what you pay for.
