New Mazda CX-30 vs MG ZS EV vs Skoda Karoq

Sitting midway between small and large SUVs in size, Mazda’s new CX-30 promises to be well suited to family duties. Let’s see if it’s a match for the MG ZS EV and Skoda Karoq...

New Mazda CX-30 vs MG ZS EV vs Skoda Karoq

Our verdict

Once again, the Karoq has come out on top in a family SUV tussle. It may be the priciest of our trio to run, but competitive monthly PCP costs make that easier to swallow. What’s more, it’s good to drive and has the roomiest and most practical interior, while the boot is simply vast. A comfortable ride and excellent visibility seal the win.

Both its rivals feel some way behind, but for very different reasons. The CX-30 has a firm ride and is too cramped in the back, while its tiny back doors make loading child seats a pain. However, you’ll love its plush interior, which is crammed full of kit. Plus, it has the best infotainment system and safety is exceptional, so it does enough for second.

That leaves the ZS in last place. We love its punchy performance and the fuel savings it brings, but it isn’t great to drive, while its eye-widening braking behaviour and so-so range disappoint. Even if you look past the way it drives, the boot is relatively small and the interior feels a little low-rent in this company.
