New Mini Convertible vs used Audi A3 Cabriolet – alternatives

New Mini Convertible vs used Audi A3 Cabriolet: which is best?

There are very few new alternatives to the Mini Convertible – it’s in a class of one. However, for a similar sort of money, if you can live with just two seats you might consider a Mazda MX-5. While it’s nowhere near as practical or fashionable as the Mini, it’s much more fun to drive.

And if you’re happy to buy used, the BMW 2 Series Convertible is the A3 Cabriolet’s most obvious competitor, but while it’s slightly more involving to drive than its Audi rival, its interior isn’t quite as smart and it isn’t as smooth or refined.

If fashion and style are high on your list, the Mini will probably be the one to choose. Of course, it also appeals to the head, with a longer warranty, a slightly lower price and better fuel economy.

However, we think it’s probably worth paying the extra for the A3. You get a more rounded, more complete car that’s roomier, better equipped and endowed with one of the best interiors going. It’s also more fun to drive and more comfortable. And if you pay a little more for an extended warranty, you’ll end up with all this in a car that should give you peace of mind.
