KX-2 trim gets you a 7.0in touchscreen through which you control the sat-nav and DAB radio. The interface is tough to fault: the menus are logical and the screen responds quickly when you prod it, while handy shortcut keys flank the display to make it easy to swap quickly between functions. The sound quality from the six-speaker stereo could be better, though.

As with all of our contenders, the CX-5’s screen is touch-sensitive. However, there’s also a separate rotary dial controller between the front seats, which negates the need to reach forward and take your eyes off the road for too long. Instead, you simply turn the dial to scroll through the menus and press it down to select something. Sat-nav and a DAB radio are included, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t available.

Unlike cheaper Kodiaqs, SE L models get Skoda’s range-topping 8.0in Columbus infotainment system as standard. This has sat-nav, Bluetooth and a DAB radio, as well as the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring apps, allowing you to legally use certain features on your phone while driving. Our car had the optional £400 Canton soundsystem, which is worth considering if you really love your music.
