New Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport vs used BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe – alternatives

Hatchback executive cars like the Insignia are relatively few and far between at its price point on the new market. However, its best rival remains the Skoda Superb, which will set you back a similar amount of cash, while also being more comfortable and feeling higher-quality inside. You could also try a Ford Mondeo, which isn’t quite as well built as the Skoda, but is more involving to drive.

On the used market, your choice widens somewhat to include the Audi A5 Sportback. It’s a newer car than the 4 Series Gran Coupe, and comes with a more modern interior that’s even better put-together. It’s even more economical, too, and more spacious inside, but the pay-off for all these good facets is that it’s quite a bit pricier to buy – and it doesn’t handle as sweetly as the 4 Series.

New Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport vs used BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe – which is best?

If practicality is a priority, or if having a manufacturer warranty matters to you, the Insignia Grand Sport is the car to choose. Its bigger, more useful boot and extra rear seat space will come in handy if you regularly carry rear-seat passengers, and you get the added advantage of knowing your tax costs will be relatively reasonable. It’s also the best equipped of these two cars.

However, for most buyers the 4 Series Gran Coupe will make the most sense. Not only is it the car to have if you value driver enjoyment, but it’s also endowed with a smarter interior, which makes it a more agreeable place to spend time. And while it isn’t quite as toy-laden as the Insignia, it’s still well-equipped. It’s also cheaper to buy, which means there’s a bit of money left over with which to extend the warranty when it comes to an end – and it’s cheaper to run, too, providing you don’t buy one with too many expensive options fitted.
