News round-up: Mercedes S-Class Coupe pricing, new E-Class gearbox and Range Rover SVR

The Mercedes E-Class will be offered with a new nine-speed gearbox, new levels of standard equipment and an improvement in both power and emissions as of this September. The 9G-Tronic gearbox will only be offered on the E350 Bluetec engine in the saloon, estate, cabriolet and coupe versions of the E-Class. The new transmission reduces CO2 emissions by up to 17g/km, and they now start at 149g/km for the coupe, 154g/km for the saloon and cabriolet, while the estate emits 159g/km.
Other engines in the E-Class range have also been tweaked - the E220 Bluetec has a 7bhp power increase, while emissions are cut by 16g/km - the SE Saloon now emits 116g/km, the lowest in the E-Class range.
Collision Prevention Assist Plus will be fitted as standard to every E-Class. The system reduces the impact of rear-end collisions by assisting with braking.
Mercedes S-Class Coupe
The Mercedes S-Class Coupe range will cost from £96,565. There will only be two engines available initially - the S63 AMG Coupe will cost £125,595, while the S65 AMG coupe will start at £183,065. The £96,565 model will be the S500 Coupe AMG Line, which will go on sale in early 2015.
There are several packages that can be specified on the S-Class Coupe. The Premium Package costs £4995 and adds bigger wheels, illuminated door sills, heated and cooled seats, and a 360-degree camera. The AMG Exterior Carbonfibre Package adds carbonfibre elements to the outside of the car, and costs £5000.
Range Rover Sport SVR
The Range Rover Sport SVR has set a new record time around the Nurburgring for a production SUV. The SVR will is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine with 542bhp, a 39bhp increase over the standard version. There are no acceleration or top-speed statistics available yet, but the Range Rover lapped the 13-mile Nurburgring circuit in 8min 14sec. It is expected to manage the 0-60mph sprint in around 4.5 seconds.
The Range Rover Sport SVR will be available to buy in 2015.
