Renaults decision to axe the current Laguna from the UK market could also mean that the all-new model due in around three years time wont be sold here either.
Speaking to What Car?, Renaults UK boss, Thierry Sybord, admitted that the decision to produce a right-hand-drive version of the next Mondeo rival will be made in the next three months.
Sybord revealed that key to the decision is what Renault decides the format for the new car will be.
If the next-generation Laguna is the same then theres no way it will be a success in the UK. he said.
We are still thinking of a new kind of car, possibly a crossover.
Sybord admitted that Renault was being influenced by the huge success that Nissan has had with the Qashqai abandoning traditional models such as saloons and hatches in favour of an SUV bodystyle.
