The Nissan Qashqai will be the latest model to get the Nismo treatment, and an even hotter RS version will follow later.

Bosses of Nissan’s tuning arm have been open about plans to apply the Nismo badge across much of Nissan’s model range as a high-end sports trim, and the small SUV is set to be the next to get the treatment.

Although company sources didn’t confirm details, the Qashqai Nismo will get the trademark contrasting red exterior highlights, tweaked and lowered suspension, and it’s likely to borrow the 215bhp, 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Juke Nismo RS. It could even get the same limited slip differential.

Darren Cox, Global Motorsport Director for Nismo, also stated that 'we need to do an RS version of any Nismo model just to maintain the identity of the brand.'

There are no details yet about the hottest Qashqai Nismo RS, but the car’s existing (optional) four-wheel-drive system would make it possible to tune the engine to deliver as much as 300bhp or more.

Current range-topping Qashqai models already cost more than £28,000, so expect the Nismo model to cost around £30k, and to arrive in showrooms next year. The hotter RS would go on sale after the standard Nismo.
