Nissan returns to profit

Nissan has reported a return to profit in the final three months of 2009.

The manufacturer recorded a profit of 45 billion yen (320 million) for the period of October to December.

Losses reversed
Nissan's return to the black for this period compares with a loss of 83 billion yen (593 million) for the same period in 2008.

The Japanese car maker said that scrappage schemes and growth in China have boosted sales, allowing it to predict a full-year profit of around 35 billion yen (250 million).

Nissan's vehicle sales in October to December 2009 were up 20% compared with the same period 12 months earlier.
