It may be getting on in years now, but the Audi A3 is still a fine family hatchback. Avoid the optional sports suspension, and the latest A3 strikes an excellent balance between comfort and control. It's also available with a range of strong and efficient engines, and whichever A3 you go for, you'll be getting a fabulous interior.
