Hyundai i30

The new Hyundai i30 will go on sale early next year, and will compete in the family hatchback market. As well as its new design, the i30 also gets a frugal range of engines and a significant interior upgrade. Prices are expected to rise over the Β£15,295 asking price of the current car, but not by too much.

Kia Rio

Like many of the cars seen in Paris, the new Kia rio will be in UK dealerships before the year is out. In this country it will compete against the likes of the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta, and to help it in that task, Kia has given the Rio a more striking look inside and out. The Rio is currently one of the cheapest options in this market – something we don't expect to change with this new model.

Land Rover Discovery

Relaunching a car like the Land Rover Discovery is no easy feat – not least because it's already one of the finest large SUVs around. This new version will offer looks inspired by 2014's Discovery Vision concept car, and will be loaded with technology. New features include the ability to fold the car's seats remotely via your mobile phone, while engine options will include Land Rover's widely used 2.0-litre diesel.

Mini Countryman

The Countryman is Mini's SUV model, but despite its quirky styling it hasn't been able to compete with the best in this market. This second-generation version is looking to change that, with the range expected to include a frugal plug-in hybrid model for the first time. Four-wheel drive will be optional on some models, too.
