8 June 2021 – Style with substance

For a start, it’s remarkably spacious. As someone who measures in excess of 6ft tall and could do with losing a few pounds, I don’t always find small SUVs very comfortable – past experience of a Kia Stonic left me with quite a bit of back pain.

No such trouble with the 2008, whose seats are big enough, well shaped and supportive. The kids are happy, too; while the thick rear pillars that give quite a big blind spot when reversing mean it’s fairly dark in the back it’s very roomy and there are two all-important charging points. Indeed, their only gripe is the lack of a central armrest.

Some of the buttons are less responsive than I’d like – not least the starter, which regularly tells me ‘Key not detected’ – but the interior feels chic, with different choices for the ambient lighting and modern, cheerful design.
