Peugeot has confirmed the price of its new hardcore 208 GTi, and also revealed that the car has almost sold out already.
Just 100 examples of the 208 GTi 30th will make it to the UK, out of an overall production run of 300. The car gets more power than a standard 208 GTi (up to 205bhp), more torque and, more significantly, a mechanical differential to aid traction, plus widened track and lowered suspension.
The GTi 30th costs £21,995, almost £3000 more than a regular 208 GTi and nearly £4000 more than our current favourite hot hatchback, the Ford Fiesta ST-2. However, high-level Peugeot sources indicate that the special edition is already close to selling out.
'We asked for 130 cars, but were given 100 in the allocation,' said the insider. 'The dealers were easily able to identify customers who would like to get in early, and the level of interest has been very high. We're already close to selling out, even before the official launch.'
Peugeot is launching a marketing campaign for the car based around the original advert for the 205 GTi back in 1984.
