Future Peugeot crossovers such as the 3008 and 5008 are likely to get more rugged looks, according to the firm's boss Maxime Picat.
The shift, motivated by a belief that an increasing number of crossover buyers want their cars to appear more capable, especially in China, forms part of the thinking behind the Peugeot Quartz concept shown at the Paris motor show.
'We want these types of cars to appear less soft and to be more expressive,' said Picat. 'The 3008 has been a sale success in many markets, for instance, but there is a consideration that it might have been more successful if it had looked like even more of an SUV.'
The Peugeot 3008 has already received a new-look in China in order to toughen up its appearance. As such, any styling work on the next-generation 3008, due in 2016, is likely to be influenced by booming sales in the region.
