The Peugeot RCZ R is set to make its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, ahead of an on-sale date early next year.

The RCZ R will be the most powerful production Peugeot ever made. Its 1.6-litre turbocharged engine is expected to deliver 256bhp, although this could increase to 260bhp by the time the car is launched.

There are no official performance figures yet, but Peugeot claims it should be comfortably faster than the current range topper, the RCZ 200 THP, which manages 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds.

The RCZ R is set to go into production later this year and the first examples will be delivered to customers in January 2014. Final specifications will be revealed later this year, most likely at the Frankfurt motor show. However, Peugeot has confirmed it will come with a bespoke suspension set-up, a distinctive wheel design, and a limited-slip differential to cope with the car's increased power.

A sports-oriented interior with sports seats and RCZ R detailing is expected, while a sports exhaust and rear spoiler will enhance the looks on the outside.

Pricing will also be confirmed closer to the car's appearance at the Frankfurt show in September, although a spokesman said that it is likely to cost slightly more than 30,000.

The RCZ R will be displayed on Peugeot's stand at Goodwood, and will also be driven up the hill over the weekend.
