What are they like inside?
There’s little to quibble about with the driving position of either car. Both have plenty of seat and steering wheel adjustment, so even tall drivers can get comfortable. The Boxster has a few centimetres more leg room, though, and its low-slung driving position gives it a more authentic sports car feel.
Both cars feel like quality products inside, but the TTS is more premium. Its dashboard is easier to use, too, with fewer buttons and a more logical layout than the Boxster’s anachronistic design. Our Boxster was fitted with an optional extended-leather dashboard that helped add an air of quality, though.
The TTS also has a better infotainment system. Although you can’t add Apple CarPlay to sync up your iPhone as you can in the Boxster, the TTS’s rotary controller is much more intuitive and less distracting to use on the move than the Boxster’s touchscreen. The TTS’s 12.3in Virtual Cockpit display behind the steering wheel also puts useful information, such as the sat-nav map, close to your line of vision.
Both cars’ standard electric fabric hoods fold in about 10 seconds and don’t eat into luggage space when down. There’s room for a couple of overnight bags in both cars. The TTS has a single boot at the back, and the Boxster has a smaller boot and a deep load bay in the nose.
