Radical Audi concept car at Frankfurt

This is Audi's radical-looking urban concept car, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

The car is small and lightweight, and designed specifically for congested city roads. Audi says it combines elements of a racing car, a roadster, a fun car and an urban car.

The urban project is not related to any current model. The body is made from carbonfibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and has protruding 21-inch wheels covered by protective plates which include strips of LED lights. A red strip similar to the side blades on Audis R8 supercar stretches over the concept cars roof and sides.

The cabin has a 1+1 layout, with a passenger seat mounted behind and slightly to the side of the drivers seat. Theres no adjustment for the seats, which are integrated into the cars structure. The driver can adjust the steering wheel and pedals to get comfortable, though.

The side windows, upper doors and front half of the roof slide back as one to provide access.

Drive comes from two electric motors, powered by a lithium-ion battery. Audi hasnt released any more technical details, or confirmed whether a production version is likely. More details are expected to be revealed at the end of August.
