Our verdict

The Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet wins because it’s more enjoyable to drive, has a bigger boot and is cheaper to buy and run, especially if you’re a company car driver.

While the Range Rover Evoque Convertible offers head-turning looks, a spacious interior and rock-solid resale values, it can’t match the C-Class as an all-rounder. Although the top-heavy handling balance may not matter when you’re cruising, the small boot, firm ride, high company car tax bills and sluggish performance relegate it to second place.
