The 1.5-litre diesel Renault Captur and Clio models are now available with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The dual-clutch system was previously only available with the 1.2 petrol versions.

The Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) 'box can be used in fully automatic mode, or switched into a manual mode, where changes are made by flicking the gearlever forward or back. It also has a hill start β€˜hold’ function.

Official fuel economy for the diesel Clio with the six-speed auto is 76.0mpg, with CO2 emissions of 95g/km. The Captur’s figures have not yet been announced.

Choosing the automatic diesel costs Β£1300 more in the Clio or Β£1000 more in the Captur, and it’s only available on Dynamique MediaNav trim and above.

The Renault Clio 1.5 dCi EDC starts at Β£16,595, while the equivalent Captur costs Β£17,395. The higher-spec EDC Dynamique S MediaNav models are likely to cost Β£17,595 and Β£18,895 respectively.

Renault has also announced that the rear parking camera system and the Renaultsport Monitor 2.0 telemetry software will be offered more widely across the Clio range.

The rear parking camera will now be an option for all MediaNav-equipped Clios, at a cost of Β£350.

The Renaultsport Monitor, which offers on-screen telemetry and lap timing, will be available on the Clio GT-Line and Renaultsport Clio 200 hot hatch for an extra Β£295. The system logs a variety of performance data, including acceleration and braking times, as well as G forces, and allows screenshots of the display to be saved via USB.
