Seat Leon and Vauxhall Astra

Our verdict

These are two very closely matched, great-value family hatchbacks. If you’re keen on having the latest driver aids, or consider practicality a priority, the surefooted and comfortable Vauxhall Astra is a great choice.

However, the sharp-looking Seat Leon is more satisfying to drive, has the better driving position and offers slightly better PCP finance deals and fuel economy. Things are rarely this close, even in this hard-fought class, but the Leon wins by only the smallest of margins.
