Small but spacious SUV

Names: Sarah Rees & Steve Wiltsher
Age: 40 & 42
Drive: Chrysler PT Cruiser
Budget: 15,000
Want: 'A vehicle with more space and a bit more presence than our PT Cruiser.

'We don't particularly want an MPV, but a small 4x4 might well do the trick.'

Nissan Qashqai 1.6 Visia 2WD
Price: 14,048
Target Price: 13,164

The Qashqai is more small family car than
full-blown 4x4, but it's chunkier and taller than the Chrysler. It's good to drive, too, and Visia trim brings plenty of desirable equipment, including air-con.

Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 140 S, '08/08
Price: 14,500

A small, understated 4x4 with an upmarket, roomy and practical cabin. The Tiguan is good to drive and Sarah and Steve could easily afford a one-year-old car because used SUV values have been hit hard.

Honda CR-V 2.2 i-CTDi ES, '07/07
Price: 14,700

This is the biggest car in our selection, so if space is the top priority, the CR-V is worth a look. It has good on-road behaviour and a fine reputation for dependability. It should hold its value well, too.
