Best used Audis for £10,000
3. Audi A1 (2010-present)
It’s small, but the Audi A1 is perfectly formed, bringing Audi’s high-quality interiors to the small car class. Under the skin, it’s the same as the Volkswagen Polo, meaning it gets proven mechanicals, but the A1 is a classier beast than its sibling, and gives you a more upmarket feel and slicker handling. Check carefully for electrical gremlins; they’re an A1 bugbear.

2. Audi TT (2006-2014)
The second-generation Audi TT manages that neat trick of combining excellent handling with a ride that’s comfortable enough for all but the pickiest of drivers. This was the first TT available with a diesel engine, too, giving high-mileage drivers an economical option, but it’s the turbocharged petrol engines that deliver the best thrills of all. Wear on the bolsters of the leather seats can be a problem and suggests less-than-exemplary care.

1. Audi A3 (2012-present)
It has one of the finest interiors of any family car, which is one reason we think the Audi A3 is one of the best used family cars going. But there are others, too; namely its brilliant blend of handling and ride comfort – though S-line models are best avoided, as they’re quite firm. Diesel models are plentiful, but petrol models deliver a smooth and punchy drive, too, and all are efficient, meaning there’s plenty of choice. Plus, of course, you get plenty of room for both passengers and luggage.
