We're big fans of the latest Nissan Leaf; in fact, until the arrival of the Kia e-Niro last year, it was our favourite electric car. It offers punchy performance, a surprisingly big boot and lots of standard safety kit. The Leaf managed 128 miles on our Real Range test.

Volkswagen e-Golf

Target Price (cost per month) £311 Target Price (on the road) £29,110 The deal Four years' PCP finance with 0% APR and £750 finance contribution

The electric version of the Golf family hatchback will get you 117 miles between charges. That's far less than some of the cars on this list, but the e-Golf has familiarity going for it; rather than being a bespoke electric car, it's almost the same to drive as any other Golf, especially in the way it handles. So, add in a spacious interior and generous standard equipment and it's easy to recommend. Later this year, the e-Golf will be indirectly replaced by the bespoke Volkswagen ID 3.

Renault Zoe front - 19 plate

Target Price (cost per month) £291 Target Price (on the road) £26,145 The deal Three years' PCP finance with 4.9% APR and £1815 finance contribution

The Renault Zoe is one of the most popular electric cars on sale today; it can cover up to 233 miles between charges, according to official figures. We like this R110 model's better acceleration at higher speeds, plus the fact that the Zoe is quiet and easy to drive.
