Most popular cars

If you're thinking of buying a new car, then there are more than 4000 variations of around 400 cars to choose from, so what should you do if you don't know what you want?

Well, a good starting point is to see which models are attracting the majority of the interest on Whatcar.com.

The top 10 is usually made up of a mix of the most keenly anticipated new cars, the What Car? Award winners and the UK's best sellers.

These are the hottest cars from the past seven days:

10th – Volkswagen Tiguan

Volkswagen's second-generation Tiguan makes a great family car. It oozes practicality and, while it is quite an expensive choice, it handles well and has a smart interior. To keep costs sensible, we recommend opting for a mid-range diesel model in SE Nav trim. This gets you sat-nav as well as three-zone climate control, cruise control and more comfortable seats.

Our pick: 2.0 TDI Bluemotion Technology SE Nav

9th – Suzuki Vitara

While the original Suzuki Vitara was a tiny, rugged 4x4, the new version is more of a rival to city-friendly models, such as the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and CitroΓ«n C4 Cactus. Spacious, neatly finished and decent to drive, it's our favourite small SUV for less than Β£15,000.

8th – Peugeot 3008

Whether you’re a fan of the Peugeot 3008’s looks or not, this small SUV certainly stands out from the crowd. What's more, it's every bit as striking on the inside, with a high-tech dashboard that feels extremely classy. True, some rivals handle better, but the 3008 beats most of them for ride comfort.

Our pick: 1.2 PureTech Allure
