Toyota introduces free 10-year warranty

From 1 June 2021, anyone owning a Toyota or Lexus vehicle that’s up to 10 years old and has covered less than 100,000 miles will automatically get a year’s warranty cover for the car when they get it serviced by a franchised dealer.
The new Relax warranty scheme doesn’t cost car owners anything, and it’s applicable to all vehicles, regardless of whether they have been bought from a Toyota dealer, independent garage or a private buyer. It’s also not dependent on the car having a full Toyota service history; as long as it’s had a full or interim service by a Toyota dealer, it will gain the warranty cover.
Owners of all types of cars, including electric cars, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and Toyota’s Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car (below), can obtain the warranty cover. And on vehicles with two-year service intervals, the cover will be for 24 months/20,000 miles.

“As well as rewarding existing Toyota and Lexus owners, our Relax programme will strengthen the appeal of our vehicles to new customers, equally whether they are considering a new car or a used model.”
According to Toyota, the Relax warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Toyota and Lexus vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles.
Like other car maker warranties, it doesn’t include wear-and-tear items and maintenance parts, and the vehicle will need to undergo a ‘health check’ as part of the service, which will flag up any existing defects; these will be excluded from the warranty.
For owners of cars bought before 1 June 2021 that have a five-year warranty, this will stay in place and will only revert to the Relax scheme at the end of the original warranty. However, cars sold after 1 June will have a three-year warranty and then be eligible for Relax cover when this expires.
