Should I buy one?
The Yaris is well equipped, with every model getting features such as Bluetooth and automatic headlights and wipers. We'd recommend going for second-rung Icon trim, which adds air conditioning, cruise control and the touchscreen infotainment, but still keeps the price sensible.
Standard safety kit including seven airbags, automatic emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning at this price is also impressive, while Toyota's sterling reliability record and standard five-year warranty are difficult to ignore.
Furthermore, the Hybrid model is a unique proposition in this class, being extremely attractive to company car drivers with CO2 emissions of as low as 75g/km.
Ultimately, though, this isn't enough to counter the fact that most rivals are better to drive, while the Fabia is more spacious, classier inside and has a more advanced infotainment system. Added to that, the Yaris's list prices and finance quotes don't stand out in this competitive class, making the regular petrol-engined versions hard to recommend.
