Used electric SUVs: Jaguar I-Pace vs Mercedes EQC verdict

Our favourite used electric SUV, the Jaguar I-Pace, now faces an equally prestigious (and similarly priced) challenger, the Mercedes EQC. Can the I-Pace retain its crown?...

New Mercedes EQC vs Jaguar I-Pace

Our verdict

Range is clearly one of the most important features of an electric car. After all, longer ranges have transformed electric cars from toys for city dwellers to viable daily transport for many of us.

The Mercedes EQC has a good range, but our Real Range tests show that it’s beaten so soundly by the Jaguar I-Pace (253 miles to 208) that it was always going to struggle to triumph over the I-Pace. It’s a good electric car in the wider class because it's quick, easy to drive, extremely quiet, spacious enough for most uses, packed with toys, and impressive on the safety front – but those qualities aren’t enough for it to take the spoils.

The I-Pace is quicker, just as well-equipped and even roomier in the rear seats. It’s also more entertaining to drive and more comfortable on the whole, despite its firmer ride. Add in its lower price, and sealing this win becomes inevitable.
