Used test – luxury champions: Audi A6 vs BMW 5 Series
With their super-efficient engines, these top-selling luxury saloons please both head and heart. But which is the better used buy?...
What are they like inside?
Both cars offer acres of space: only drivers well over 6ft tall need have any concerns about head or leg room. Generous driver's seat and steering wheel adjustment means pretty much anyone can get comfortable in either car. The 5 Series does feel slightly less roomy, mind you, if only because of the higher centre console between the front seats.
In the back, the two cars really show their luxury credentials. Both take three six-footers in complete comfort, with huge amounts of head and leg room.
Both have very decent luggage capacities, too, but the A6 has the edge with a much wider boot and 60/40 split-folding rear seats as standard. The latter feature was a £375 option on the BMW, so you’ll have to search around to find one with it fitted.
The Audi also has a very slight lead in terms of quality, with a stylish interior built out of tasteful materials. The BMW still feels upmarket, but a few slightly cheaper-feeling pieces of trim mean it has to play second fiddle here.
