If you want a fast and sporty SUV at a reduced price take a look at these two humdingers. But which one should you choose? We spill the beans...

Used test: Audi SQ5 vs Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

Our Verdict

Truth is, neither of these performance SUVs has a particularly broad appeal. You’ll struggle to get more than 25mpg from either of them and you’ll be stopping every 350 miles or so to fill up the tank. But they’re not bad cars; in fact, both impress in their different ways.

If you get your thrills from blasting away from traffic lights and listening to a piercing V6 soundtrack, the GLC 43 is well worth a look. It’s even practical and easy to drive when you’re in family mode. It’s cheaper to buy at this age than the Audi, too.

However, the SQ5 will quickly catch up through the corners, and on top of that it’s much more refined at nearly all speeds. Its ride is in another class, too, so this is a far more comfortable car to be in. It’s also smarter inside, with a truly impressive infotainment system. It’s even more practical too, and, despite being more expensive to buy, should cost you less to own in the long run. Put simply, it’s the better all-rounder here.
