One of the most iconic names in the van world, the Volkswagen Transporter remains hugely desirable in its latest T6.1 guise.
This revised version of the sixth-generation Transporter features more technology and cleaner engines, while retaining the rock-solid resale values of its predecessor. Indeed, if anything used Transporters have become even more sought after since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic – not least because private buyers have sought them out for campervan conversions.
True, fuel economy lags behind the Citroën Dispatch, Peugeot Expert, Toyota Proace and Vauxhall Vivaro, while the Ford Transit Custom and Mercedes Vito benefit from lower labour rates. However, if you can stretch to these slightly higher running costs, the Transporter will pay you back handsomely in the long run.
As a bonus, its strong residuals mean leasing rates are surprisingly affordable.
