Vauxhall Astra engines announced
* Eight engines * Around 10% more efficient * CO2 emissions from 109g/km...

Vauxhall's all-new Astra will get a greener range of engines when it goes on sale later this year.
The eight-engine line-up will be made up of four petrol and four diesel units.
Petrol engines
An 84bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine with CO2 emissions of 129g/km will be the entry-level point, followed by a 138bhp turbocharged 1.4 that matches the current car's 1.8 petrol for power, but has lower CO2 emissions and 15% more torque.
There are two 1.6-litre petrol engines one with 113bhp and a turbocharged 178bhp version.
Diesel engines
Four diesels engines are planned, but the only one to be confirmed is an entry-level 94bhp 1.3. The other three are expected to be a 109bhp 1.7, along with 128- and 158bhp 2.0-litre versions.
Vauxhall's green brand, Ecoflex, will join the range in 2010. It's expected to use a version of the 1.7 diesel, but with tweaks to the suspension, gearing and aerodynamics resulting in CO2 emissions of just 109g/km.
A five-speed manual gearbox will be standard for the lower-powered 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines, as well as the 1.3 diesel.
The rest of the range will have a six-speed manual gearbox. Vauxhall says that a new automatic gearbox will be available for all petrol models.
More details will be released nearer to the Astra's on-sale date later this year.
