What is it? Insanely addictive four-door super-saloon
With a pricetag just shy of £50k and running costs akin to the space shuttle's, the latest Vauxhall VXR8 isn't the most sensible four-door saloon you'll ever come across. In fact, some might say it's downright irresponsible.
A 426bhp 6.2-litre V8 engine hurls the Vauxhall's 1831kg of steel, leather and some pretty questionable interior plastics to 60mph in just 4.9 seconds.
Pin the hefty accelerator pedal against the firewall, pausing only briefly to grab another ratio from the agricultural six-speed gearbox and the VXR8 will maintain its manic quest to reduce its rear tyres to canvas all the way to 155mph.
Don't go thinking this Vauxhall is all brute force and ignorance, though. Granted, every one of the lurid colours you can choose is just as loud as the exhaust's bellow, but otherwise the VXR8 is exceptionally well regimented.
Continually adjustable shock absorbers, sweetly weighted steering and a limited-slip differential keep the car feeling nimble, even on narrow country roads.
Equally, should you get too enthusiastic, you can rely on the biggest brakes ever fitted to a road-going Vauxhall to bring you back from the brink.
In short, irresponsibility has never been so much fun.

Outrageous in every way
