Our recommendation: buy used
For Ian's long list of criteria, we were always going to end up with a compromise, and for our chosen cars that's the lack of a CD player. We've been able to accommodate all of Ian's other requirements, however, and nothing comes closer to being the complete package than this Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer.
While the Mini Countryman that Darren championed has a smooth diesel engine, four-wheel drive and reasonable handling, this jacked-up version of the Vauxhall Insignia has all that plus all the space Ian could ever need.
Our recommendation this time, then, is to buy used.
